The soul of Poggio Antico, the voice of our terroir, and the best expression of who we are today: Vigna i Poggi, Poggio Antico's first single vineyard Brunello, is finally on its way. It will be available on the market for the first time with the 2019 vintage, starting this coming spring 2024.

The result of years of research, observation and meticulous selection, Vigna i Poggi 2019 is obtained through the separate vinification of grapes from I Poggi. The vineyard boasts incredible potential at an average altitude between 550-570m a.s.l. and has always been the home of outstanding Sangiovese.

THE VINEYARD

Enjoying a southwestern exposure, “I Poggi” vineyard covers 2.5 hectares and is characterized by composite, deep and moderately fertile soils made up of gravel for more than 35%.

The calcareous soils, a type of Tuscan galestro, are home to a vineyard planted in 2005, trained using the spurred cordon system and now completely under organic management.

These are soils with enormous winemaking potential, which we have selected and cared for over the years to ensure maximum expressiveness.

We fertilize exclusively with natural products, and manage the greenery with corroborants, to help the plant develop its natural defenses and protect it from the challenges brought about by climate change. Every action is aimed at maintaining biodiversity, which allows the creation of a healthy, resistant and independent ecosystem, where the grapes can express their potential to the fullest.

THE WINE

After the harvest, which took place, for the first vintage of Vigna i Poggi, in early October, the grapes are vinified separately in 4 60hl tulip-shaped concrete tanks. Here, alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place simultaneously with maceration, maintaining temperatures below 25°C for about 15 days.

The approach to the extraction of phenolic compounds is always gentle, focusing on punching down in the initial stages and light wetting of the cap in the second half of the process. 4 weeks after harvest, racking takes place with the separation of the flower wine from the press wine.

Vigna i Poggi 2019 was aged for about 30 months in 4, 25 hl Austrian oak barrels, with an additional 6 months in cement before bottling.

The release of Vigna i Poggi 2019 – with a production of approximately 10,000 bottles of various sizes and available on the Place de Bordeaux, in the USA and in Italy – is scheduled for this coming spring.
